The Reference
Quick on the heels of the first Baylor watch listed on Dial + Bezel is this fantastic Baylor 200m Super Compressor dive watch. As we mentioned in our previous post on Baylor, the Dallas-based brand that was associated with Zales, was keen on white labeling watches and this piece, produced by Duvel, is a good example of what Baylor produced throughout its history. Luckily, the quality of these watches was quite high with both quality cases and movements and in the case of this example some serious diving chops as well with a depth rating of 200 meters and an internal rotating 60-minute dive bezel.
The Case
The 38mm stainless steel cushion-shaped compressor case made by Duvel is in good condition. The watch features sharp chamfers and a fully polished case. Both the winding and internal bezel crowns are signed with the Baylor insignia but the highlight of the case is undoubtably the awesome racing speedboat etching on the screw down caseback.
The Dial And Hands
The dial is no nonsense and is finished in matte black with white print. The tritium lume has aged to a dark caramel. The orange sweep seconds hand and white hour and minute hands are a nice touch that adds to legibility. Additionally, the internal toasting bezel completes the diver aesthetic and is rotating freely.
The Movement
This watch features an automatic Duvel signed AS 1903 movement. The watch is running and the service history is not known.
