The Reference
The 30mm Chronometer certified movements that Omega produced between 1941 and 1954 are a much-lauded and storied part of the history of the Omega brand due to the various records these movements set at the Geneva Observatory. Never one to miss an opportunity to tout their own accomplishments, in 1953 Omega began applying the name “Genève” to some of the watches housing these movements to honor their own accomplishments. Unfortunately, shortly after Omega started adorning their dials with “Genève” they stopped producing the 30mm Chronometer certified movements, but they continued to grow the “Genève” line of watches with a leaning towards the dressy rather than sporty side. By 1967 the name began to be applied to models throughout Omega’s range, such as the Omega Dynamic, that was produced in large volumes. The “Genève” line was aimed at a younger generation and as such was priced more competitively than some of their other lines. The strategy worked and at its peak, the “Genève” line accounted for more than 60% of watches sold by Omega.
The Case
The stainless steel case is in very good condition with no major flaws to note. The correct brushed finishing is seen on the top and sides of the case. The signed crown is also correct for the watch. The crystal is in very good condition but is missing an Omega signature which indicated that it is a later replacement. It measures 24.5mm wide without the crown, and 35.3mm from lug to lug.
The Dial and Hands
The matte black dial is in very good condition. Like many Geneve models, the layout is simple and elegant featuring applied indices as simple slender hands. The white hands and printing contrast nicely and are correct for the watch.
The Movement
This watch features a manual wind Omega calibre 625 movement. The watch is running and the service history is not known.
