We love coming across brands that we had no idea existed. While Rodania is not a well-known brand in the United States it has been quite popular in the Benelux countries as well as Canada. Interestingly they even produced some watches for the Canadian armed services. From a market position standpoint, they seemed to have produced great midrange watches with high-quality components and well-finished ebauche movements. Based on this watch we think that Rodania deserves a bit more interest.
The 37mm stainless steel case is in good condition. It has been polished and we believe that it originally would have had a brushed finish rather than the high polish finish that it is now seen with. The crown and pushers look to be correct and are in great condition with none of the base metal showing through the plating. The screw-on caseback shows no markings which could be a factor of the polish.
The Dial and Hands
The silver and blue dial is the highlight of this design. Beyond the great color combination, the dial is notable for the various layers starting with a chapter ring rehaut that slants down to the dial. The chapter ring meets large applied hour markers which lead to sunken registers. Overall condition is good with some tarnishing apparent upon very close inspection.
This watch features a manually wound Rodania signed Landeron 248 chronograph movement. It should be noted that on the Landeron 248 the pusher at 4 oclock is used to both stop and reset the chronograph. The watch is running and the service history is not known.
