The History
We could act like you don’t know anything about this watch, but let’s be honest, you probably do. Not only is it a Rolex Submariner, one the most recognizable watches ever made, but it is also the brand new model that was just released a few months ago and took over every watch instagram account in the world. The early history of the Submariner tells us a lot about this new model though. In the early 50’s, Rolex Director, Rene-Paul Jeanneret, who himself was a passionate scuba diver, brought an innovative idea to Rolex founder Hans Wilsdorf. Jeanneret wanted a watch that he could dive with in the afternoon and then keep on his wrist for a night out while wearing a suit. This was a big departure for dive watches of the time, which were very much thought of as tool watches, but the idea hit home with consumers and this idea of a watch that is as comfortable in the ocean as it is at a cocktail party has lived on in every generation of Submariner since.
The Reference
The reference 126610LV was released in August of 2020 along with a refresh of the entire Submariner lineup. While almost indistinguishable from its predecessor there are a number of key changes that we should discuss. The first is an increase in overall case width from 40mm to 41mm. This also impacted the size of the lugs and the width of the oyster bracelet, which also both gained a millimeter. Rolex didn’t just make everything bigger, they subtly reshaped the case, which is most noticeable seen in the more prominent curve on the lugs. In addition to the design changes also came a new movement with all of Rolex’s newest technological advancements. Lest we forget the most obvious feature on this watch, its green bezel. Referred to as the “Cermit”, short for ‘ceramic Kermit’, is a nod to the 50th anniversary Rolex model that was released in 2003 with a black dial and green aluminum bezel.
This watch was purchased new from a Rolex authorized dealer by the seller and is in brand new and unworn condition. The watch comes with its inner box, outer box, hangtag, and complete set of papers and warranty card dated 1/26/21 (yah it’s that factory fresh).
The Case and Bracelet
The watch is in new and unworn condition and as a result is free of any scratches or flaws. The oyster bracelet was sized at the request of the AD but features all of its original links included in the sale.
The Dial and Hands
The distinguishing factor of this watch has to be the combination of the green ceramic bezel with a glossy black dial. This is a brand new combination for the Submariner and a welcome addition in our books.
The Movement
This watch features an automatic Rolex calibre 3235 movement. The watch is running at factory specification and comes with its original warranty that is dated 1/26/21.
